helping out cleaning up fall leaves front yard

so part of our goal in homeschooling is making sure there is a deeper connection to home and the world around us. that includes the seasons and nature but it also includes consideration of the neighbors though to be honest nothing we do in the front yard would ever be good enough for them because our landscaping is more free flowing and organic and less prim and proper like theirs.  What's funny though is that we can always tell if someone lives either in an apartment or grew up somewhere other then Houston, because we will get compliments from them whereas someone from the neighborhood hoa or from some upper middle class hoa in houston will be more likely to judge and criticize our yard and home.
it's amazing how much even subcultures in our own society can make such a difference on people's views of what is "right" or "wrong" or proper or improper for yard management.
though I gotta admit, I personally like having a small bit of grass in my yard as well as the other sections as I like sitting and laying in the grass, and I think it makes a nice path way.

So each fall, we rake up the leaves off the lawn and use them as mulch to make the soil healthier for any edible plants we might grow.

One fall, we even actually went and collected over 200 bags of leaves from the neighborhood to raise up the beds, though most of them we mulched in the backyard to create some compost and vertial raised bed experiments.  but that took a LOT of work.  so now we just use whatever our own home creates.   It still leaves us sad though that everyone else in the neighborhood still dumps their leaves in the landfill instead of utilizing them to make healthy organic soil.

And so, we rake up the leaves and put them into the raised bed and listen to the neighbors whine with this false belief system that the leaves then get blown over from our yard to their yard. I agree the banana leaves I shredded in the winter did blow into the yard, but I know for a fat that the regular oak leaves do not.  But as I said, nothing is going to ever change the neighbors minds and they will just keep complaining.   though once we have money supplies again, we will at least cover the yard in edible flowers so then have nice flowers to enjoy once again  That is ONE thing they will compliment me on those years we were able to afford to give them that.

Well, I certainly went off on a tangent there.  My apologies.
anyways, raking the leaves has it's benefits. it gets us outside connecting with nature, it's good exercise, gives us the chance to meet neighbors, rebuilds and makes our soil healtheir (where we put the leaves), and shows just a tiny bit of consideration for the neighbors on either side of us who long for us to have a green lawned yard, lol.

So get rid of your noisy leaf blower and lawn mowers and get some exercise, connect with nature, connect with your neighbors and get yourself a good old fashioned rake and rake your lawn or your friends lawn if you don't own one.

Connect to nature, connect to each other, connect to your body.  RAKE instead of leaf blow.
